Program:
Frank McDonought, The Arboretum Botanical Information Consultant will discuss:
“Cactus Diseases and Pests”
Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanic Garden botanist Frank McDonough is highly questionable...it's his job. Every year he answers thousands of plant related questions from government, business, and private individuals. Like a detective on must-solve case, Frank uses the Arboretum's vast store of horticultural literature, and his own 30 years of experience as a botanist and horticulturalist to track down the answers. From "what's eating my plant?" to "what evidence would a man-eating plant leave?” the questions he gets are as varied as the residents -both pink and green- of the county he serves.
Mr. McDonough graduated with a botany degree from Cal Poly Pomona and has worked in the horticultural industry for over 30 years. He has been the Arboretum’s Botanical Information Consultant since 1998. He has appeared as an expert on the DIY channel, the Gardening Channel and the History Channel. He was an associate professor at California State University Dominguez Hills from 2004 until 2009 where he taught his course, a live call-in gardening television show called “Gardens of California,” that was viewed by thousands people weekly on channel 36 in Los Angeles and channel 64 in Pasadena. He has recently been a guest on KPPC’s “Off Ramp” radio show.
Frank is also a California Certified Pest Control Advisor and holds a minor in Plant Pathology from Cal Poly Pomona. His talk will cover the identification and treatment of various pests and diseases that attack cactus and succulents.
